Open Research Data: The WATERUN Project's Commitment to FAIRness - Work package 6

The WATERUN project, like all HORIZON projects, is participating in the Open Research Data Pilot (ORDP) conducted by the European Commission. This participation entails certain obligations for the WATERUN consortium, including:

  1.     Developing and updating a Data Management Plan (DMP).
  2.     Depositing the data generated in a research data repository.
  3.     Ensuring that the data is FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) for third parties.
  4.     Providing relevant information about the raw data used to validate our research (metadata).

Regarding the first point, the initial Data Management Plan (DMP) for the WATERUN project was submitted in November 2022. It will be updated twice, first at month 36 (May 2025), and then the final version will be prepared by month 48 (May 2026). The objective of the DMP is to outline how the WATERUN project guarantees that its research data will be made FAIR whenever possible. In the initial version of the WATERUN DMP, each partner was asked to anticipate the datasets that will be produced in each task of each work package (WP) throughout the project's duration. In the subsequent versions, this list of presumed datasets will be regularly updated, and a table per completed dataset will be added.

Concerning the second point, a community for WATERUN has been established on the public repository called ZENODO. ZENODO is developed under the European OpenAIRE program, and it adheres to the principles of FAIR data (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable). Currently, there are only a few scientific publications and deliverables available, and none have been published on the ZENODO platform.

The third and final points are addressed through a procedure in which each partner creating a dataset will be required to complete descriptive tables containing metadata associated with the dataset.

An online workshop on data management is scheduled for November 2023. Following this workshop, all data-producing partners will be able to provide their datasets and associated metadata, enabling us to share them on ZENODO.*
