WATERUN partners looked into data management - Work Package 6

In order to help all data-producing partners to provide their datasets and associated metadata, the International Office for Water, in charge of the Data Management Plan, organized a workshop on November 7th. The purpose of this meeting was to ensure that all partners are aware of Horizon Europe’s requirements in terms of publications and data management.

This meeting was run by Mélanie FAYET, with the help of a colleague, Marie-Paule ADDE, who recently got involved in the project.

During a short presenation Mélanie covered Horizon Europe requirements for publications. She also gave some reasons for choosing an Open Access publication: it gets more citations, it guarantees a wider audience, it advances scientific innovation.

In her presentation, Marie-Paule detailed Horizon Europe data compliance. She suggested that partners should think of data as a valuable asset. She highlighted six advantages of early deposition: data preservation, research continuity, scientific impact, faster insights, collaboration, transparency and compliance. She closed her presentation citing the principle of Open Data: “As Open as Possible and as Closed as Necessary”.

After these short presentations there was a workshop on the data description table, annexed to the Data Management Plan, which allowed to sort out a few problems on the table. Mélanie and Marie-Paule pointed-out some inconstistencies about personal data, the type of access and the repository. The participants were split into two groups, they discussed these issues and suggested improvements.

The second workshop provided an opportunity to fill in the two metadata sheets for one output already available: the modelling database for Santiago and Aarhus case studies, as it is a public deliverable with related data sets, i.e. field campaigns.

Now delivrables and data sharing can be implemented. And if any questions remain, they can be discussed at the next consortium meeting on November 28th.
