The European Waterun project will enable sustainable runoff water management in the city of Santiago de Compostela. Santiago is one of the cities hosting a case study for this project, demonstrating the feasibility of the treatment proposals promoted by Waterun.
In Santiago's case, the pilots are located in two industrial parks on the outskirts of the city. One of these locations is the A Sionlla industrial park, where work on two pilots has been ongoing in recent months. These pilots included two sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS) and a constructed wetland. This week, the construction of the two SUDS was completed.
One of the SUDS is filled with sand and gravel, while the other, in addition to sand and gravel, incorporates an innovative shell fill. The SUDS will treat the water from the A Sionlla industrial park basin after it passes through the stormwater tank. Both have a volume of approximately 8 cubic metres.
Additionally, the NBS (constructed wetland) located in the same site will be completed in the coming weeks.
